Halloween pumpkin party
I went to a pumpkin carving party tonight and made a cyclops pumpkin. There were 15 pumpkins lined up in two rows and they looked great. Most were faces, plus some of the fancier kinds like a spooky tree with a mouth, or a ghost saying Boo!, using stencils from a kit. People took pictures and somebody will probably send me photo which I can post here.
There was homemade vegetarian chili and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies that were like a cookie/muffin hybrid and apple cider. I talked to some new people and played Bohnanza and generally had a pleasant evening.
I decided I want to carve a watermelon and see how that turns out. I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t work. Sure, it might be more work to hollow it out, and I might need to flatten out a bottom so it doesn’t roll, and yet it could be very cool and unexpected. And think of all that watermelon scooped out to eat!

Google Reader tells me I have another post from Rabbit Style News: Woohoo!
Of course it would work. I’ve heard they’re great for wedding buffets and tropical parties.
It seems like it would actually be easier to hollow out a watermelon. Freeing the ropey, sticky pumpkin guts from the pumpkin’s base is a frustrating and unsatisfying activity.
Have you seen the new xkcd? LOL!
