Cell phone misadventures

I went camping this weekend about two hours away in the high country with a small group of friends.  We asked the park ranger for directions to a swimmin’ hole.  There was a small waterfall, several swimming holes filled with really cold water, and cliffs on either side.  Some high school pools were cliff jumping into two of the pools, which didn’t look appealing to me, especially since they said they sometimes hit bottom.  We did some mild rock climbing to get down to the water.  After we were done with cold wading in our swimsuits, I tossed my clothing and shoes up to somebody on the ledge above before clamoring back up.  I cringed as I tossed each shoe because I had wedged my camera and cell phone inside them.  After both shoes were caught and held I relaxed, then threw my shorts.  My cell phone fell out of the pocket and we watched it tumble 10 feet to the water below.  Oh that’s right, I put my cell phone loosely in my pocket and not in my shoes at all.

I got back in the really cold water and felt around with my feet where I thought it landed, and couldn’t find it.  It was evening and the sunlight wasn’t shining on the water anymore and my feet stirred up the silt to make a murky mess.  I could see my pale white feet glowing at the bottom, although couldn’t see the rocks or anything else.

We came back the next morning with two more friends who hadn’t made it the day before.  Peering over the first cliff my bright blue phone was clearly visible in the pool, nestled by a rock with several gray crawfishy creatures.  The water felt much colder this time, possibly because it was morning and hadn’t been warmed in the sun all day.  I got my phone back, and one friend got her flip-flops which had been forgotten on some rocks.  It’s unlikely my phone will recover, although I’m still going to give it a try.

What I Wore to Work Today: May 25

All Target as usual, except the shoes which came from Shoe Pavilion or something a few years ago.  This is pretty much my work uniform, really, so this WIWTWT resurrection (What I Wore to Work Today) might get old pretty quickly: knee-length skirt, t-shirt or tank top, cardigan.  I own at least 7 cardigans, some of which are the same ones in different colors.  Or maybe I’ll be inspired to mix up my wardrobe a little bit…?

What I Wore to Work Today: May 18 and 20

I was born to be a model.  Check out these poses!  Wow!!  I especially like the one against the tree, I call it “It’s the ’90s and I’m taking my senior pictures in the same poses as the 40 other people in my class using the same photographer, it’s a small town and there are like two photographers to choose from.”

The skirt, tank top, and belt are from Target.  The gray cardigan is a minor refashion from Goodwill.  Shoes are probably from Payless.

The black pants are from some store in a mall a few years ago, and the top is from Ross.

What I Wore to Work Today: May 17, 2010

Several years ago I regularly posted pictures of what I wore to work that day.  I was given a hard time about it by some of my friends and/or family, and I said that’s what blogs are for you guys, right?  All about me?  The point of a personal blog like mine, talking about me me me and posting pictures of myself all the time?  I don’t remember exactly why I stopped doing it, maybe I was tired of myself (!!) or maybe my photographers lost patience with it, or maybe I drifted away from my blog in general.  I’m going to start doing it again, and now I know it’s totally a thing that people do who aren’t me.  Some of my favorites include mommy fashion (Megan Nielsen), high-quality homemade clothing (Handmade by Carolyn), the awesome occasional homemade or refashioned item (luck and bliss, Vively Online, with the crickets), continually inspiring transformations from thrift store dresses (Sew I Thought…), English student (Sadie’s Wardrobe), and do-it-yourself fashion tutorials (Made By Lex).

Everything in this outfit is from Target, it turns out, including some underthings.
