The Mother Lode!!!

How many belts am I wearing, you ask?  I think the real question is, how many belts are you wearing?  If it’s not 4 then it’s definitely not enough.

The box o’ treasures from my good friend in Minnesota arrived today and holy crap she was completely right about that — oh my god wow was this amazing!  I just barely made it to the apartment office in time to pick up the large box, and then headed off to an art gallery and dinner.  (I know, I’m extremely sophisticated!)  When I got back I opened the box to find it packed with individually wrapped items — 13 of them!  This was going to be awesome.  I assumed they were gag gifts, for the most part, and was I ever wrong.  Wow wow wow!  It was unbelievable.  The most fun I’ve had the past two months, that’s for sure.

The first one I opened was a skirt somebody gave to her that’s too big for both of us and I’ll be refashioning it, probably for Monday’s work attire.  Each item had a post-it note inside with an explanation or comment.  This was awesome, I tell you, this whole thing is incredible.  I put on everything as I went along — the gifts were clothing and accessories — reveling in her choices and taking pictures (I accidentally cut off my head in the first series, see below) and doing some laugh-out-loud-because-it’s-good-to-be-alive talking to myself.  She chose all this stuff for me!  And wrapped it and spent three trillion dollars to mail it overnight!  What’s in the next one!  How awesome is this!!

I received the following items:

  • 3 pairs of earrings (2 pictured)
  • 3 pairs of socks (2 pictured)
  • 4 belts
  • 1 black & white skirt
  • 1 blue & white skirt for refashioning (not pictured)
  • 1 peacock blue cardigan
  • 1  dusky indigo sleeveless top
  • 1 dress
  • 1 Middlebury Juggling t-shirt that was originally mine and now that it’s back will be refashioned.  (I went to 3 or 4 meetings and didn’t learn to juggle, although I did buy the t-shirt.)
  • 1 pair of shoes
  • 1 necklace
  • 1 package of Silly Bandz

You’ll see many of these things in the coming weeks as I wear them for real and not just prancing around my sewing room.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

New clothes always make me feel optimistic. I say to myself, “In these pants I will ace the GRE!”, “In these shoes I will run a marathon!” I pictured you doing wonderful, happy things in those clothes. I’m so pleased you like them, you look great! Happy Birthday.
