5th time’s a charm
What I Wore to Work Today: Tuesday, July 19, 2011
Dress: $1 Goodwill, refashioned
Belt: Xi
Shoes: Target
“What a nice dress,” my boss said as I used the copier next to her cubicle. “It’s very pretty.”
“Thank you,” I replied. “It’s new.”
During a very productive Tuesday evening I completed a few sewing projects, including this dress refashion. It started out as tent of a garment and while I knew I liked the sleek polyester material and adult palette, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. I was surprised to end up with a dress that is appropriate for the office after making simple changes, resizing it without changing any of its structural essence. I haven’t even had to hem anything yet because the polyester doesn’t seem inclined to fray.
- Removed shoulder pads
- Took in sides
- Chopped the skirt
- Cut sleeves
Giant floral print dresses are a common item at the local Goodwills, particularly polyester ones with buttons down the front. This is my 5th floral dress and still I said, “Yes, I will pay one dollar U.S. American for this, and a good day to you ma’am. I said good day!”
