This skirt and I parted ways on April 27, 2011, after several lovely years together. A friend and I went running and I lent her clothes to change into when we decided to get dinner too. I promptly forgot about the interaction, although the run was added to my running log.
At first I’d notice the skirt’s absence and say, “Oh, it’s in the laundry”. After awhile I thought of it as being in the mending pile to tighten a button or two. Finally I realized it was gone and I didn’t know when, where, or how. I grieved a little and moved on with reluctance. Months went by.
Then, oh, the sweet then! I mentioned this story in passing to a friend who said, “Uh, I have that skirt, I’ve had it for awhile”. After over another month of reminders, proddings, and text requests, the skirt has returned to me! Sometimes, when you think something is gone from your life, it shows up again unexpectedly and you are together, in some ways together again and in other ways together for the first time. Sometimes it then goes on to disappear from your life once again, leaving you a note and a spice collection missing the marjoram. True story.
