Baby shower
I wore this dress to a baby shower last week followed by church the next day and I felt quite ladylike — I even had a lacy slip underneath! It was my first baby shower outside of a work breakroom and it was pretty much what I expected: nibbles and snacks, cupcakes, guessing the circumference of the guest of honor’s belly using a strip of toilet paper, attempting to collect as many tiny pink clothespins as you could by catching other people saying the forbidden word “baby”, lots of squealing “ohmigawd that’s SO CUUUUUte” at each ruffly pink miniature skirt or onesie with sassy phrases. I didn’t really participate in that last one, actually, mustering up commentary the best I could (“Stripes!”, “That tutu will be perfect for her 6-month dance recital”, “oh look!”, “There’s a flower right on the bum of that onesie, ha ha!”).
Due to a grave miscalculation on my part, I ended up sitting next to the pregnant woman (rows of chairs were lined up like an audience facing a different direction, I assumed she would be opening gifts over there!) and probably in the background of all the pictures. I tried to look pleasant and attractive and attentive the entire time because I didn’t know when somebody was taking a photo.

The tag on the $1 Day Goodwill find said Dry Clean Only. I said “Ha ha no thanks, you’re not in charge of my performance reviews and I don’t have to do what you say!” And the skirt keeps getting shorter every time I wash it, it’s like magic. At some point it might shorten beyond my office-comfort-threshold. When would one wear a pink tweed short skirt in regular life?

I think of this as my Sailor Skirt. …I might not have an accurate image of the Navy.

Morning lighting on the balcony is suboptimal during the spring months. Attempts at adjusting it after the fact just add a certain computerized look.

The best part of a skirt with pockets is giving you something to do with your hands while standing for pictures.

I just tried and failed to come up with a song called “What Shoe Is This?” to sung to the tune of the lovely Christmas hymn “What Child Is This?” (also Greensleeves). I think we’re all relieved I let it go after a few minutes.
I don’t know what shoes I’m wearing in this picture. Maybe they’re from Target, or perhaps I bought them at Ross, I can’t tell what they are! Whee, mysteries are fun!

I was given a bike for Christmas and it lived on my balcony during the winter and now that it’s a bazillion degrees out there (mid-May is way too early for 105 degrees!) I moved it inside. I almost poked my eye out on a handlebar, which I guess is a hazard of storing one’s bicycle in the bathroom.
3 1/2 months
Apparently I haven’t posted since the beginning of February! I could be a third of the way through a pregnancy by now! Which I’m not. I went to a baby shower yesterday which then gave me a dream that I showed up at a hospital already having given birth, saying, “Uh, I already did it, actually, should I still check in?” and nodded toward the tiny infant I was pulling in a little red wagon behind me.
Anyway, here’s a picture of what I wore to work February 22.
