Dollar day success

What I Wore to Work Today: May 30, 2012
Cardigan: Target
Sequin Tank top: Goodwill
Pants: Goodwill, $1 Thursday
Shoes: Payless

My recent trip to Goodwill on $1 Thursday was successful. I walked in with a list of specific items and I found everything on the list: black pants, colorful shirt that can be worn to work (the pink striped one), white button-down, another pair of work-acceptable pants, and a dress for refashioning. These Express pants don’t even need to be hemmed or tailored. Thanks, Universe!

What I Wore to Work Today: May 24, 2012
Blouse: Xi, new
Skirt: Goodwill, shortened
Shoes: Target
Glasses: Lenscrafters, Tory Burch

I browsed through a few stores while waiting for my new glasses to be ready. This sea foam green chiffony blouse with little pink flowers called to me. The ruffled detail at the top reminded me of an Elizabethan ruff, and yet I still wanted it. The bottom of the blouse is elastic and made the shirt pouf out in an unflattering manner, and yet I still wanted it. I said, “Ok, I’ll buy if it’s $13 or under”, and when it was $15 I still wanted it.

I decided to stop wasting time debating and I never looked back.

Car maintenance

This is what I wore today, including when changing the headlight bulb on my car, except then I had on black flip-flops instead of these new shiny red espadrille wedges. A shirtless dude came out to his patio 10 feet away to smoke a cigarette. “What’s wrong with your car?” he asked.

“I’m changing the headlight,” I replied, wrestling to remove the burned out bulb.

“Headlight, huh, that should be just a couple little tabs to get it out,” he offered. “Do you have a new bulb?”

“Yep. [Why would I be taking out the old one if I hadn’t already purchased the new one?] The bulb seems to be stuck, though. Not a problem, I’ll win with brute force,” I said.

He watched the rest of the process in what I assume was silent appreciation. I checked that both headlights flashed when unlocking and locking the car, closed the hood, and wiped my hands on a towel. I pulled my sunglasses down from the top of my head and walked away.

I nodded at the spectator. “Victory,” I said, and he nodded back.

Diagonal stripes

What I Wore to Work Today: May 22, 2012
Shirt: Goodwill, $1 Thursday
Skirt: Goodwill, shortened
Shoes: Target
Watch: Target

I hadn’t gone to the $1 day at Goodwill since last year and I found a few delightful pieces to expand my shrinking wardrobe. This shirt reminds me of my 80s childhood for some reason, something about the stripes and the pink and the wide neckline even though I don’t recall wearing anything like it during my actual 80s childhood.
