What I Wore to a Show: Monday, September 24, 2012 Tank top: Goodwill Shorts: Goodwill, $1 Thursday refashioned Shoes: Target I wanted to wear something fun, not warm, and with pockets for ID and cash. I wanted shoes with a bit of a heel to help see the stage (5’2″ isn’t optimal height in a crowd), and comfortable enough to stand the entire night. I was pleased with my choice until the last hour, when my feet and lower back were weeping from the gently sloped concrete floor. You can tell I meant business with my “going out look” because I put on a bit of makeup. Didn’t do anything to my hair though — in the picture it’s still wet from the shower. Wash, brush, air dry. That’s my hair routine. Sometimes, if it’s bothering me, I pull it into a ponytail.

“These are so comfortable, like I’m wearing pajamas”, fashion bloggers sometimes say. I didn’t quite understand it, maybe because I usually sleep pants-free or maybe because they’re often referring to a jersey maxi-dress and the only thing nightgowns ever did for me was ride up during the night until they were gathered under my sleeping armpits.
These new pants, though, they totally do feel like pajama pants. They’re soft and pliable and loose and a little stretchy. They started out long enough for somebody much taller than I and are now hemmed to wear with heels.

Besides a short period this summer, I don’t usually wear a watch except on runs or while traveling. I wore a watch this day, however, because our group had a meeting in a conference room without a clock and I realized I’d like being able to know the time. I guess that’s often why people wear watches, huh, because they like being able to know the time.

Dress: Target, new
The high today was 82 degrees, a full 20 degrees below normal. I spent the glorious weather inside, chained to my cubicle. And this evening I have only myself to blame. I spent it on the couch, gchatting with a newly-engaged friend about the frustrations involved in selecting a wedding venue suitable for 120-150 guests in their budget range, when they don’t live in the city and can’t visit prospective sites again and the various parents have opinions that conflict with each other and the engaged couple.
I’m going to shorten this dress just a couple inches. Even with the sleek high heels, I felt a bit dowdy. It overwhelmed my small frame.

Q. What’s white & black & blue all over?
A. A nun falling down the stairs.
Q. What’s white & black & read all over?
A. The newspaper.
Man, those jokes take me back to elementary school. For starters, that first joke seems in poor taste, making mockery of a sister in the faith who was unfortunate enough to trip on the stairs. I mean, we’ve all been there, right? Also, the “I fell down the stairs” angle has its own implications.
I’m not clear on how to write the second joke. The hilarity comes from the red/read homophone pun, which works best when said aloud. Also, it’s clearly coming from a previous era. What’s a newspaper??
