The magic formula
What I Wore to a Housewarming Party: Saturday, January 12, 2013
Dress: $1 Goodwill, refashioned, new
Belt: Target
Stockings: Target
Boots: Famous Footwear
My formula when refashioning a dress? Make it shorter, narrow the sides if necessary, add belt and boots.
The party was in the apartment complex across the street, a 5-minute walk except we went down to the light for safer crossing and that added another 5 minutes. Which was worth it for not being hit by a car. Everybody wins.
When this non-leather belt started to wear through at the point where it bent while being threaded through the buckle, I cut it off at the crease, colored the pale inside with permanent marker, drilled a new hole, and started wearing it at my waist instead of my hips. It’s reversible with a swivel buckle, dark brown on one side and black on the other.
A-Line
What I Wore to Church Today (and Work the Week Before): Sunday, January 13, 213
Tshirt: Target
Skirt: Target, new
Boots: Famous Footwear
Earrings: Claire’s
I wore this to work the first day back in the new year and again for church this week. For somebody who doesn’t consider herself a Christian, I sure do go to church with surprising regularity, huh.
I’m thinking I’ll take a bit of the wide A-line out of this skirt. Not turn it into a pencil skirt or anything, just narrow it a touch on either side.
Sick day
What I Wore to the Grocery Store: Friday, January 11, 2013
Tshirt: Target
Cardigan: Target
Jeans: Ross
Shoes: Ross?
Earrings: Claire’s
I left work early on Thursday and stayed home on Friday. I emailed my manager to ask if it was ok and she replied, “God yes! Get out of here, you shouldn’t have even come in this morning!” Well, that was that gist of what she said.
This sore throat/congestion/coughing cold thing has been going around the office and my improv theater and various friend groups and I didn’t avoid it. On Friday I made myself presentable and went to the store for some nice sturdy & soft tissues and some cold medicine before retiring to the couch. For a couple days I slept 12+ hours a night and napped 4 hours during the day and now I’m like a regular human again. Good job, immune system, way to pull it together after all.
’90s hotel room, in dress form
What I Wore to Church Today: Sunday, January 6, 2012
Dress: $1 Day Goodwill, refashioned
Cardigan: Target, new
Shoes: Payless
I bought this dress sometime last year (good-bye, 2012!) and something about it really appeals to me. The ’90s hotel room palette, the buttons on one shoulder, the same-fabric belt… I love it.
I shortened the skirt and sleeves (hooray for jersey, no hemming required!) and removed the miniature shoulder pads. I might remove the sleeves altogether at some point, although I’ll leave it as-is for now.
The pants again
What I Wore to Work Today: December 20, 2012
Tshirt: Target
Trousers: $1 Goodwill, shortened
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: Claire’s
Despite photo evidence to the contrary, I didn’t wear just these pants for the past two months. Apparently they were the only clothes I photographed, though.
An Evening at The Ballet
What I Wore to the Ballet: December 19, 2012
Dress: $1 Goodwill
Bolero: $1 Goodwill, refashioned
Earrings: I don’t know
I saw The Nutcracker for the first time and enjoyed it, except for the interminable scenes featuring children. My friend said that the productions she has seen before didn’t have quite as much time focused on kids, although they’re always a part of it. I felt like I had accidentally purchased tickets for a K-6 recital, albeit one with a professional symphony. When the actual members of Ballet Arizona were on stage it was delightful, beautiful, and inspiring.
I bought the black shirt at Goodwill on my way home from work. I was picturing a shrug or bolero of sorts, something to provide arm coverage and a bit of warmth over the long slip dress, and it worked out perfectly with scissors, no sewing required.
Basil Watch 2.0
What I Wore to Work Today: December 4, 2012
Blouse: Mall store I don’t remember
Trousers: $1 Goodwill, shortened
Shoes: Payless
Earrings: Claire’s
Ok, look, I’m probably going to be buying a new basil plant every three months. This picture shows that the newest basil plant was still alive a month ago, sitting in its “temporary” travel pot on top of the large pot where it was going to get planted eventually. Not an issue anymore — it has since shriveled up. Cold and not putting it in some real dirt and lack of watering will do that to a plant.
At least the spider plant is thriving. It had been potted in the first basil plant’s cardboard container. There’s some sort of irony in there, I’m pretty sure.
Last confirmed sighting
What I Wore to Work Today: November 21, 2012
Tshirt: Target
Skirt: Target
Shoes: Target
Earrings: Claire’s
I bought a handful of tshirts at Target this weekend, different colors of this one. I wanted to buy another black one too because this one is MIA, and there weren’t any in my size. I don’t know where this shirt disappeared to. It’s not like I live an exciting life where I could get home to find that I wasn’t wearing a shirt anymore. It’s a mystery.
Edit: It was in Mexico!! I visited my brother in Sayulita, Nayarit about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta and I left this shirt there accidentally.
