Two dollar outfit

What I Wore to Work Today: September 10, 2013
Blouse: Goodwill, $1 Thursday?
Pants: Goodwill, $1 Thursday?
Shoes: Payless

These pants were from Goodwill on dollar day, right? I think that was the case. It has been awhile. Same with the sleeveless top. I don’t know anymore.

A versatile dress

2013_09_09 hand on hipWhat I Wore to Work Today: September 9, 2013
Dress: Macy’s, new
Shoes: Payless

This dress called to me at Macy’s, where I was shopping for pencil skirts and sheath dresses and jackets and other business attire. I kept circling back to it. “But this isn’t business attire!” I protested to my friend. “And it’s more money than I’ve ever paid for a dress that wasn’t for prom or a wedding!” She just waited. On a 3rd or 4th pass I said “Ok,I’ll try it on. There’s only one size here anyway, maybe it won’t fit.”

It did fit and I loved it, including details you can’t see in these pictures, like dark blue buttons on the shoulders and small side slits. Turns out I can wear it for work, even though it’s not the blazer and pencil skirt look that was on my mind that day, and I found a forgotten $25 gift card in my purse.

I have since worn it to the office, on a date, to a taping of NPR’s “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”, to church, and at Notch’s .Party() last spring in San Francisco. It is quite the versatile dress.

Actually a cute skirt

What I Wore to Work Today: September 5, 2013
Blouse: Target, new I think
Skirt: Target, new
Belt: Target
Shoes: Payless

I hemmed this skirt after wearing it this time. Now it’s right at the knee instead of just below it. Will you get to see? Maybe! Together we’ll find out if it’s included in any of the backlogged pictures or if we’ll have to wait until it shows up again in the present.

Last week, in actual time December 2014, I wore it to work. A woman in the break room, “Jana”, is known for her passively snide comments that she hides behind canned laughter.

“That’s actually a cute skirt, Amy!” she said.
“Thanks!” I replied cheerfully. [pause]
“I wish I were skinny enough to wear it,” she said, sneering slightly.
“Yeah, it’s great how it comes in different sizes!” I replied cheerfully. [pause]
“I know hahaha” she said.

Uh, good talk, Jana.

Another one!

What I Wore to Work Today: September 4, 2013
Blouse: Target, slimmed
Skirt: Goodwill, shortened
Shoes: Target

Hey look it’s another post! Still with the same font though, and who knows what’s happening with these posts in readers like Feedly. (Pictures show up with odd placement on a laptop version and not at all on the app so far…) But hey, it’s another one. Add a third and we’ll have a pattern.

Who is this??

Hello? Who is this? How did you get my number?

Looks like somebody decided to restart the ol’ blogaroonie, which means sorting through a backlog of pictures from over a year ago. Luckily (?) there’s maybe only a month or so of What I Wore to Work Today photos before it seemed to fade out as a thing I was doing, which means catching up is feasible. In theory. WordPress has new and confusing features (what font is this and how do I change it if that’s a thing I want to do??) and it will be an exciting new project. Or, a project that lasts exactly one day. We’ll talk again in January 2016.

What I Wore to Work Today: September 3, 2013
Dress: Ann Taylor, new
Belt: Target probably
Shoes: Payless

This was my first day in a new position at work as a Contract Analyst, a delicious title. I always wanted to be something with the word Analyst. I decided to buy some new clothes to recognize the new position and celebrate my promotion, improving my wardrobe with attire appropriate to a financial services industry professional in her early 30s (I was 31 at the time of this picture). There had come a time in my life when I wanted to wear clothes sometimes that were not from Target or Goodwill, and I was prepared to spend literally hundreds of dollars to do it. Over a year later, we’ll journey together to see how I did.
