A versatile dress
What I Wore to Work Today: September 9, 2013
Dress: Macy’s, new
Shoes: Payless
This dress called to me at Macy’s, where I was shopping for pencil skirts and sheath dresses and jackets and other business attire. I kept circling back to it. “But this isn’t business attire!” I protested to my friend. “And it’s more money than I’ve ever paid for a dress that wasn’t for prom or a wedding!” She just waited. On a 3rd or 4th pass I said “Ok,I’ll try it on. There’s only one size here anyway, maybe it won’t fit.”
It did fit and I loved it, including details you can’t see in these pictures, like dark blue buttons on the shoulders and small side slits. Turns out I can wear it for work, even though it’s not the blazer and pencil skirt look that was on my mind that day, and I found a forgotten $25 gift card in my purse.
I have since worn it to the office, on a date, to a taping of NPR’s “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”, to church, and at Notch’s .Party() last spring in San Francisco. It is quite the versatile dress.
