Mystery baby quilt: red, pink, and orange

unknown recipient 2013_11 (3)

I came across these quilt pictures while updating my photo folders. I don’t remember anything about this quilt and I hadn’t renamed the pictures yet to provide clues. Maybe it was for a friend in Minnesota, baby #3? The pictures were taken November 2013, does this theory work with that timeline? Have I made quilts for all of their children? If that’s the case I better get cracking on the quilt for baby #4 due this fall.

Turquoise and yellow baby quilt

kara quilt patio wall

I found these pictures on my computer from October 2012, a baby quilt I had forgotten that I made. I vaguely recalling being told they were doing a turquoise and yellow theme for their baby and I said “I can work with that!” The quilt is resting on the patio wall of the apartment below mine. It was the only nearby surface that would hold the quilt horizontally — I tried the pool fence gate and a nearby bush first — and I hoped the neighbors wouldn’t catch me at it. A rummage through the memory files confirms that I had ended a relationship a week or two before the pictures, meaning I didn’t have a quilt photo assistant handy.

Paula Poundstone!

Paula Poundstone Feb 2013

What I Wore to a Paula Poundstone Show: Friday, February 15, 2013
Dress: Ross
Cardigan: Target
Clutch: Gift from my brother and his wife
Earrings: Claire’s

By sheer coincidence I ended up wearing stripes just like Paula Poundstone and we totally coordinated when I got to take my picture with her after the show. She’s one of my favorite panelists on “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”, along with Adam Felber, Jessie Klein, and Mo Rocca.

It was sort of a date, the kind of date with dinner and a show and your ex-boyfriend whom you still see sometimes and at the end of the evening he tells you that he has been dating someone for a few weeks and so you two won’t be hanging out anymore except as purely platonic friends because if things get serious with her he doesn’t want to have to tell her about any sort of overlap with his ex-girlfriend, and then you don’t end up hanging out as friends either after that. One of those kinds of dates.

What I Wore to Work Today: Monday, October 15, 2012
Shirt: Goodwill, $1 Thursday
Pants: Ross, hemmed
Shoes: Payless
Earrings: Garage sale

Something about this shirt feels retro to me, I don’t know if it’s the color or the stripes or the neckline or what. When I wore it with polyester pants I felt like I had slipped back in time 30 years. Anybody who wasn’t a fetus and/or newborn in 1981 want to verify the accuracy of this impression?

What I Wore to Work Today: June 28, 2012

I would like to add more stripes to my wardrobe. Universe, make it happen. I’ll be at Goodwill’s 50% off Saturday next week. Meet you there.

Diagonal stripes

What I Wore to Work Today: May 22, 2012
Shirt: Goodwill, $1 Thursday
Skirt: Goodwill, shortened
Shoes: Target
Watch: Target

I hadn’t gone to the $1 day at Goodwill since last year and I found a few delightful pieces to expand my shrinking wardrobe. This shirt reminds me of my 80s childhood for some reason, something about the stripes and the pink and the wide neckline even though I don’t recall wearing anything like it during my actual 80s childhood.

12 months later, baby quilt delivered!

I finally checked off a series of tasks necessary to give friends in the Midwest a quilt for their baby daughter who is, oh, let’s see here, 12 months old now? Congratulations you guys!

Weeks or months went by between each step for no particular reason (buy new bobbins from the sewing machine manufacturer, add binding, take the package to the post office…). One of my goals for 2012 is less lag time when projects are almost done. Take the time today to finish it and deliver it and move on.

She mentioned that their nursery has a jungle theme so I chose flannel monkeys for the backing, and made the rest with pieces from my blue & green stash.

Jailhouse stripes

This is one of the new dresses I bought during my shopping trip at Ross a couple weeks ago.  I loved it immediately, was disappointed the first one would become too small after putting it in the dryer, and then was delighted to find one more copy in a size larger.  It was a emotional rollercoaster.

I wore this to a game night on Saturday and then to church the next morning.  It wasn’t a very raucous game party, and I did a sniff-check before putting it on again.  God wouldn’t care, but the Lord’s worshipers next to me in the pew might.

I loves me some fabric scrap cards

I made a small stack of cards using fabric scraps on Friday night while catching up on “The Office”.  I am a party animal, let me tell you.  It was off the chain up in here.
