Style Imitating Art: The Roses of Heliogabalus
What I Wore to Work Today: Wednesday, June 8, 2016
Dress: Target
Shoes: Payless
Salazar at 14 Shades of Grey selected this week’s Style Imitating Art piece: The Roses of Heliogabalus by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. My initial reaction was that I don’t have anything pink or tan or brown (I still haven’t worn the cognac heels I bought from Target months ago to fill the gap in my dressy footwear wardrobe, a gap I have since realized was because I don’t need brown shoes) or anything delicate and flowery or with sumptuous draping or that could be a nod to the marble pillars.
I stood in my closet, looking through my clothes to double-check that I would skip this one. “Oh, I guess this dress has some pink in it… and the pattern looks like it could easily be a blizzard of blush and dark pink petals. Oh hey yeah this works.”

Style Imitating Art – Sunrise
I’ve been following Style Imitating Art from Animated Cardigan, 14 Shades of Grey, and Librarian for Life and Style for awhile. And now I am actually participating and submitting in time!
Ok, fine, so I haven’t worn this to work yet. The rain all week got in the way of pictures outside, and I worked from home a couple days while I was sick.
I was excited that my usual photo spot includes the fuchsia bougainvillea background as a nod to O’Keeffe’s flower paintings. Unfortunately, the bright magenta color looks red in my old camera’s pictures — in real life there’s a difference between my red pants and the pink flowers. My belt is a touch of gold sun.
